a peek at my next zine, and three tarot books
Spent the morning working on the new cover for my next zine. Pencil + markers, and more flowers. This time I'm making a one-page zine on regular letter paper.
P.S. I added Moonbow 7 as a digital download if you were too shy to have it mailed to you:)

I went to the Toronto Reference Library downtown yesterday to check out their zines on the 4th floor but alas, there were no zines, only independent periodicals. Still interesting, and I did stay to peruse the floor, but it wasn't what I was looking for.

I'm taking this photo from inside the elevator. How gorgeous is this view? What a beautiful space. After wandering around a bit, I decided to go down the street, grab a coffee, and head to the nearby library to check out a few books.

I Tarot Therapy Harness the Healing Power of the Deck by Leona Nichole Black. Tarot through the lens of an educator who specializes in cultural studies. Comforting book that uses reflective questions and journaling prompts to go deeper with the cards. Her personal anecdotes reveal just how unique everyone's relationship is with Tarot. I find it so fascinating to learn new ways of thinking through other people's interpretations of these archetypes, as it adds layers of understanding to my own practice. No two people view our cultural archetypes in the same way, which is why Tarot is so personal.
II Twenty-Two Impressions Notes from the Major Arcana by Jessica Friedman. Historical beginnings, research, and art history are blended within personal essays. Looking at the evolution of these archetypes as our culture changes means that the Tarot is ever-evolving/changing.
III Radical Tarot Queer the Cards, Liberate Your Practice, and Create the Future by Charlie Claire Burgess. This is by far the most compelling one, and very much validates issues I have with the Tarot (Gender, Masculine/Feminine energy, Hierarchy, + Capitalistic undertones). It's a must-have for your shelf if you're into reading Tarot.
